Once in a lifetime
We often justify our expenses, our actions, our decisions by saying that they are "once in a lifetime". I think that phrase really is justification. The truth is that every moment of our lives is only once in a lifetime but we seldom treat them as such. I believe that we need to stop chasing expensive "once in a lifetime" opportunities, stop justifying things as "once in a lifetime" and start paying attention to the moments. I'll stop preaching now!

I read this the other day but had to take some time to think about it.
I agree and disagree.
I agree that we often do justifty our actions and expenses by saying that they are once in a lifetime, and I also agree that every moment is 'once in a lifetime' and that we should treat them as such.
I do think that there really are 'once in a lifetime' experiences and opportunities, and that we should take advantage of those too.
I guess it just touched me, because I have been describing my trip to Israel as 'once in a lifetime'. What you said made me question whether or not I was simply trying to justify the decision and expense.
Perhaps it is one part of the reason why I've made the decision, but also I think the reason that I just that turn of phrase is because it is something that people understand. I could try to explain to them in long, cumbersome detail the way in which I felt God speaking to me, the longing I have deep inside and the way I feel that the timing is write. But 'once in a lifetime' is easier, and is very similar to how I feel God speaking.
So yes, agree and disagree.
